The Tree of Life

I love the symbol of The Tree Of Life and I always wanted to write my own song about this amazing symbol.  Here it is!

The tree of life my soul has seen
Laden with fruit and always green.
The peace that fills my heart unseen,
From wisdom of the tree I glean.

I am like the tree you see.
Way down in Earth my roots are deep.
They are the anchors of my life,
My faith, my hope, my strength, my light.

From deep roots my trunk has grown,
Strong and true like granite stone.
My skin like bark with time etched art,
Tells my tales since my life’s start.

My arms like branches outreach cast.
Seeking truth from the vast.
Reaching for the radiant sun.
Reflecting in when day is done.

Like leaves my choices countless are.
Numerous choices like the stars.
The choice is mine so have a care.
Choose wisely the time, what, where.

Like seasons, life has ups and downs,
Along with all the smiles and frowns.
I live each day in honoring,
All the lessons of the tree.

The tree of life my soul has seen
Laden with fruit and always green.
The peace that fills my heart unseen,
From wisdom of the tree I glean.

From wisdom of the tree I glean.

From wisdom of the tree I glean.

From wisdom of the tree I glean.

That Mile

I try to write songs that are life lessons.  You know those lessons you have always heard since childhood and if you are a parent, those lessons you are now instilling in your children…. The Golden Rule, don’t judge until you’ve walked a mile in their shoes….  What better way to learn these if not through song?  So this song about not judging others until you have walked a mile in their shoes is just that.  I have titled it, “No One Is Perfect”.  Hopefully this will help teacher children this lesson and/or maybe a little reminder for those of us who are older.

Have you heard the old saying from back in the day?
I’ve heard it all my life and I’ve found it, I’ve found it to be true.
Don’t judge until you walked , you’ve walked a mile, a mile in their shoes.

We all walk on our journey, our journey in our own way.
What’s good for one, is for another, another’s dismay.
Until you’ve walked in another’s shoes,
You’ll never know their views.

No one is perfect.
And we all have our different views.
No one is perfect.
So don’t judge unless you’ve walked a mile in their shoes.

We all have our issues.  Don’t be fooled.
No one is perfect.  We all pay our dues.
So don’t judge unless you’ve walked a mile, a mile in their shoes.

No one is perfect.
And we all have our different views.
No one is perfect.
So don’t judge unless you’ve walked a mile in their shoes.

Now before you judge child, think again.
See through the eyes of love.
Let your soul shine free, shine bright and free.
No good will it do child, for you or anyone.
No good will it do child, for you in the end.

No one is perfect.
And we all have our different views.
No one is perfect.
So don’t judge unless you’ve walked a mile in their shoes.

Oh This Girl

This is a story of a beautiful little puppy girl named Betsy.  She was my dad had a close relationship.  During his battle with cancer, she stuck with him through thick and thin and brought him so much comfort.  I will never forget how she was with him until the very end and will always be grateful.  Betsy was an amazing example of loyalty and love.  We can learn so much from her example.

Oh this girl, as your time on Earth grows dim,
I’ll never forget how you took good care of him.
You’re only ten pounds with a spirit great within,
An example for us all what it means to love all in.

(1 measure)

You sat by his side all day and through the night
A little, tiny sentry for the battle of his life.

(2 measures)

Radiation and chemo from him took more and more
And there you remained some pain for him you bore.
Then came more pain and he pushed you away.
So there you sat two feet from him, day after day.

(1 measure)

After our daddy died, you came to live with me.
From little sister to my girl, that is how we came to be.

(2 measures)

We’ve had four good years, good health, happy, and spry.
But for you age sets in and your time on Earth grows nigh.
Your twilight years are here and your light grows dim.
Now I’ve big shoes to fill how you took good care of him.

(1 measure)

So when your time grows near and your journey home begins,
I’ll be there for you, as you were there

(2 measures)

Oh this girl, as your time on Earth grows dim,
I’ll never forget how you took good care of him.
You’re only ten pounds with a spirit great within,
An example for us all what it means to love all in.

(1 measure)

It's Okay to Disagree

This song began to form during all the political unrest which we have recently witnessed.  We are all too different to agree on everything.  All we can do as humans is to AGREE TO DISAGREE.  We can respect one another.  If we can do that, we may survive.  I believe we can do it.

It’s okay to disagree.  This world is made up of all kinds,
Different races, different creeds, different beliefs, and different realities.

No one is right if everyone’s wrong and everyone thinks their side the right one.
All these divisions are tearing us apart.
All these disagreements are poisoning our hearts.

It’s okay to disagree.  This world is made up of all kinds,
Different races, different creeds, different beliefs, and different realities.

What if we worked together in unity?
What if we respected the majority?
What a better world this would be if we could all agree to disagree.

It’s okay to disagree.  This world is made up of all kinds,
Different races, different creeds, different beliefs, and different realities.

It’s okay to disagree.  This world is made up of all kinds,
Different races, different creeds, different beliefs, and different realities.

It’s okay to disagree…

It’s okay to disagree…

It’s okay to disagree…

Sisters

This song began to take shape during the Me 2 movement.  In my eyes, the movement was successful because women started sticking together.  Women started backing each other.  We still have some ways to go but what a start!   I hope this songs reminds people of the strength in we have when we stick together.

Sisters!  We Gotta Come Together
Sisters!  We gotta come together!
Sisters!  We gotta stick together!
Sisters!  We gotta back each other!
Show’ em that sisters don’t turn on their own.

He’s got you cornered and he thinks he won’t pay retribution,
Cause history’s gone and shown him victims turn on their own.
Don’t leave your sister hanging all alone,
Show’ ‘em that history ain’t done set in stone!

Sisters!  We gotta come together!
Sisters!  We gotta stick together!
Sisters!  We gotta back each other!
There’s power in numbers and that is well known!

Now don’t get us wrong all you fine gentlemen!
We love all you brothers want to make you our own.
There’re just some bad seeds that gonna come along
Let’s come together and show’ ‘em what we don’t condone!

Sisters!  We gotta come together!
Sisters!  We gotta stick together!
Sisters!  We gotta back each other!
And take back our power and make it our own!

(Instrumental for 8 bars)

Sisters!  We gotta come together!
Sisters!  We gotta stick together!
Sisters!  We gotta back each other!
There’s power in numbers and that is well known!

Sisters!  We gotta come together!
Sisters!  We gotta stick together!
Sisters!  We gotta back each other!
Take back our power and make it our own!
Take back our power and make it our own!

My Little God's Nest

Whenever I’m feeling tired,
anxious, or distressed,
in my mind I go back to that place
I call my little God’s nest.

I call back distant memories
Back in the woods on a crest
Way way back in the years I go
Back to my little God’s nest.

Danbury, Connecticut
We lived on Long Ridge Road.
A pond, the pastures, and the woods are where
A girl on her pony rode.

Way back through the years
To my place of refuge and rest
Healing silence, stillness, and grace
My holy, little God’s nest.

One day while riding out in those woods,
I noticed I pale green glow.
A clearing where the sun shone down through the leaves,
And cast a radiant glow.

I stared in silent amazement
At this place of simple grace
I knew from that time and all the rest,
This would would be my little God’s nest.

Way back through the years
To my place of refuge and rest
Healing silence, stillness, and grace
My holy, little God’s nest.

Sitting in silence taking in this site
Outcome all the creatures to my delight
Deer, squirrels, and birds flying past.
Didn’t know, my lesson was cast.

I ponder their lives so different than mine.
The peace of their existence away from my kind.
No mortgages, politics, future, or past,
Just living in the moment, I realize at last.

Way back through the years
To my place of refuge and rest
Healing silence, stillness, and grace
My holy, little God’s nest.

The light grows dim and it’s time to leave.
From my little God’s nest, memories I’ll keep..
All the reminders, I take within me
Restored, replenished, with clarity I see.

I ponder the wisdom I witnessed that day
Living in the moment with love and grace.
Gratitude, humbleness renewed within,
I head home on my pony to my life and my kin.

Way back through the years
To my place of refuge and rest
Healing silence, stillness, and grace
My holy, little God’s nest.

My holy, little God’s nest.

New Kind of Beauty

I was inspired to write this song from parents of young girls. They would express their hopes in raising their daughters into confident women. They expressed how they wanted to instill a new sense of what beauty should be. In short, they want their girls to put less importance into hair, make up, body image, and clothes and more energy and time into developing their sense of self and self worth, developing good character, good work ethics, and to be bolder and self assured. This is my wish for all the girls out there as well.

There’s a new kind of beauty going round.
No more down cast eyes on the ground.
Look’ ‘‘em straight in the eyes girls, don’t be shy.
There’s a new kind of beauty on the rise.

Confidence and strength amplified.
Courage and wisdom exemplified.
Feminine grace from head to the ground.
She takes on a challenge without backing down.

There’s a new kind of beauty going round.
No more down cast eyes on the ground.
Look’ ‘‘em straight in the eyes girls, don’t be shy.
There’s a new kind of beauty on the rise.

It’s ok to be different, just be who you are.
Be confident and noble and you’ll rise like a star.

There’s a new kind of beauty going round.
No more down cast eyes on the ground.
Look’ ‘‘em straight in the eyes girls, don’t be shy.
There’s a new kind of beauty on the rise.

There’s a new kind of beauty going round.
No more down cast eyes on the ground.
Look’ ‘‘em straight in the eyes girls, don’t be shy.
There’s a new kind of beauty on the rise.

Don’t Be Afraid to Start Again

At some point in our lives, we get to a point where something ends and we are faced with the challenge of starting over with something new. It could be a new career, going back to school, or maybe we now have an empty nest. You are starting over. For me, I found myself with an empty nest and lots of new time on my hands. So I decided to throw caution to the wind and started something completely new! (Writing, singing, recording, and selling my own music). Even though beginnings can be a bit scary, remember that, this time, you are bringing something to the table. You now bring much more knowledge, patience, maturity, and a much better sense of the world and how it works. If you find yourself contemplating in starting something new, go for it!

Don’t be afraid to start again
Cause you’re starting from a place of experience.
Doesn’t matter if you loose or win.
Don’t let fear or doubt set in.

Eyes opened up to so much more now.
Wiser of the world and how it works.
Much more settled in who you are now,
Who you are and the know and how.

Let go all misconceptions and fears.
Move ahead into second gear.
Take a deep breath and go with the flow.
One day at a time and go go go.

Don’t be afraid to start again
Cause you’re starting from a place of experience.
Doesn’t matter if you loose or win.
Don’t let fear or doubt set in.

Look at yourself back then.
Now look at yourself right now.
How much more you know from back then
So much more you know right now.

Don’t be afraid to start again
Cause you’re starting from a place of experience.
Doesn’t matter if you loose or win.
Don’t let fear or doubt set in.

Old Friend

This song was inspired by my relationship with music. Music has always had the ability to celebrate my highest moments. On the flip side, it has always helped me through my darkest periods. Music has always been my home base and has always helped me get back to me again. Thank you music for always being there.

Hello music my old friend.
Just want to thank you once again.
Through the good times and the din,
For me you’re there through thick and thin.

Like the North Star beacon,
Your light shone through the dark to guide me.
No matter the reason,
You reached through storms to guide me back to me.

When the storms came through and blew me off course,
You guided me back to my own shore.
Thank you my old friend for being there
No matter why or the where, thanks for being there.

Hello music my old friend.
Just want to thank you once again.
Through the good times and the din,
For me you’re there through thick and thin.

Like the North Star beacon,
Your light shone through the dark to guide me back to me.
No matter the reason,
You reached through storms to guide me back to me.

Thanks for being the island calm
Amidst the stormy sea.
Thanks for being the beacon
That led me back to me.

Hello music my old friend.
Just want to thank you once again.
Through the good times and the din,
For me you’re there through thick and thin.

Just thank you my old friend.
Thank you my old friend.
Thank you my old friend.

My Everything

Simply put, this song is about how grateful and lucky I am to have my husband. He is my everything!

All my life had been a series of goals
Always asking myself, always searching my soul.
Trying all the while, stumbling here and there.
Searching for my purpose, searching everywhere.

Off to school away from family and home.
Quickly I learned I wanted some of my own.
Then one day you walked into my world,
Sharing love and home with this wandering girl.

Everyday I wonder what I’ve done, what I’ve done,
What I’ve done to deserve you as my only one.
Cause you’re my lover, you’re my partner, you’re my best friend,
You’re my heart, you’re my soul, you’re my everything.

Off we went together on this journey through life,
Full of ups and downs with some joy and some strife.
Through it all we’ve been there side by side, facing the world on this awsome ride.

Everyday I wonder what I’ve done, what I’ve done,
What I’ve done to deserve you as my only one.
Cause you’re my lover, you’re my partner, you’re my best friend,
You’re my heart, you’re my soul, you’re my everything.

Later two grown sons making their own way,
Searching for their purpose for what come or what May.
Looking ahead this chapter new we’ve come,
You on with your career and me with my songs.

Still we walk ahead in this journey through time,
Hand in hand as each hour chimes.
So much more we’ve yet to give,
All of the adventures we’ve yet to live.

Everyday I wonder what I’ve done, what I’ve done,
What I’ve done to deserve you as my only one.
Cause you’re my lover, you’re my partner, you’re my best friend,
You’re my heart, you’re my soul, you’re my everything.

This song is dedicated to all the child victims of the schools massacres that are becoming way too common.

If You Knew

This song is a suicide story, my brother took his life several years ago and this song tells the story of what they leave behind: the years of grief and pain of family and friends. The motivation in writing this song is to bring awareness to what family and friends go through when someone they love takes their own life. It is my hope that in putting this out there, if someone ever gets to that dark point, the knowledge of what that decision does to the loved ones will help change their mind.  Here are some resources for suicide prevention and for suicide survivors.

Autism Blues

Both of my sons are on the Autism spectrum so I saw first-hand the bullying that takes place in schools towards autistic children. This issue is confirmed by any teacher or school administrator that you talk to.  I believe the best way to change the current climate, in schools, is to educate the children. Make them aware of what Autism is and why Autistic children act differently. My personal experience will be channeled through this song. Here are some resources you can go to if you or your loved ones are experiencing anything similar.
